Few voices trigger an unmistakable spark in one’s soul like Cecile Believe’s. The LA-based artist, songwriter and producer has established a career that has helped build the pillars of the new-alt pop and electronic scene. Now once again stepping into the fore for a new trailblazing solo project, she shines brighter than ever.

As the songwriting, producer and collaborator backbone of some of the pop scene’s most groundbreaking talent – SOPHIE, Hannah Diamond and Caroline Polachek among them – the magnetic force of Cecile’s creative vision has not only seen success streaming in the multi-millions, but is actively shifting the narrative of pop music.

A bedrock of her creative force is the ability to break existing expectations of pop – an idea that stems from deconstructing and rebuilding notions of sound, songwriting and genre. Cecile creates music that is an ever-evolving and inherent rebirth – sparking lush fullness from destruction in a way that represents some of the most beautiful aspects of a life dedicated to artistry itself.

Working beyond – or post – genre, her approach has created a buzz in the increasingly genre-less landscape of pop music for the better. Harder approaches to tender narratives and soft juxtapositions to hardcore sounds are Cecile’s songwriting and production philosophy, the influence of which has sparked beyond her collaborations and into the pop/electronic music scenes as a whole.

And it is this notion of the spark that is the throughline from Cecile’s magnetic pull as a collaborator and into her solo work. On new EP “Tender the Spark,” she builds on her signature post-genre approach, effortlessly moving from pure grandiose pop on “Ponytail” to the thumping echoic lead single “Blink Twice” to softly glimmering ode to the intimacy of creative collaboration on “The Pearl”.

Each track explores a facet of Cecile’s versatile production and vocal style – embodying feeling and theatrical prowess through a shifting of shapes that so evidently shows why your favourite artists are drawn to her artistic spirit. But despite the sonic versatility, each track was developed from a singular philosophy – Cecile trusting the paths of innate creative sparks. Collaborating with longtime peers Casey MQ, NightFeelings, Count Baldor and Jessie St John, Cecile and friends embodied a long-time songwriting practice of spark-devotion, and spark protection – trusting creativity despite tumultuous and uncertain periods of time in Cecile’s personal life. She eventually built a sonic world that is both a reality shifting listening experience and reality-honing truth – life itself is as joyously unpredictable as “Tender the Spark” but Cecile invites the listener to trust in the glistening beauty of it all the same.

And it’s this trust and generous spirit of Cecile that led her to meeting label-owner and longtime collaborator Sega Bodega, who is releasing the EP on imprint “ambient tweets.” Sharing early versions of these songs with Sega through sessions years-past set aflame a realization of shared sonic philosophies and mutual desire to work together beyond studio collaborations. A spark in synchronicity of the EP heading towards completion as Sega was setting up a new means to release music independently was the perfect catalyst for their partnership. Thus, Cecile’s dedication to protecting the spark rang true once again.

The EP, “Tender the Spark” launches this summer alongside special headline shows in Cecile’s current Los Angeles base. With more solo activity to follow, Cecile’s path to growing her dedicated audience in the same wake as magnetizing a scene of artists and collaborators is well and truly alighting.
