Born on the ancient island of Sicily and now based in Berlin, Nino Pedone is a producer, DJ, sound designer, and label founder who’s best known for his work as Shapednoise. He sculpts perplexing, mangled electronic textures, fusing them with abrasive, expertly designed rhythms and crashing across genre boundaries, pulling inspiration from industrial music, hardcore continuum, experimental noise, hip-hop, and rap.

Pedone’s idiosyncratic technique has evolved across four vastly different releases: 2013’s Opal Tapes-released “Until Human Wakes Us’, “Different Selves” released on Type in 2015, 2019’s “Aesthesis” on Scottish imprint Numbers and “Absurd Matter, the inaugural release on his own multidisciplinary platform WEIGHT LOOMING. The latter is Pedone’s most ambitious full-length to date, structuring his ear-bending sonic experimentation into unstable but familiar patterns and featuring guest spots from NY rap duo Armand Hammer, techno-rap trailblazer French producer Brodinski, David Lynch-collaborator Dean Hurley, vanguard Philly poet, musician, and activist Moor Mother, and Bruiser Brigade’s ZelooperZ. “Absurd Matter” it’s accompanied by a new a/v live show in collaboration with visual artist Sevi Iko Dømochevsky.

A keen collaborator, the Sicilian producer has also worked alongside artists like Coil and Psychic TV’s Drew McDowall, Godflesh’s Justin K Broadrick, Gabber Eleganza, NON, and Halcyon Veil’s MHYSA, most recently trading vibrations with Kenyan club futurist Slikback and Hyperdub’s Nazar. And Pedone has showcased his material live at some of Europe’s most challenging festivals, working with filmmaker Pedro Maia on an A/V show for Berlin Atonal in 2019 and showcasing his devastating full-spectrum sonics at Berghain for CTM 2022.

Driven just as much by the love of bass music and the fringe club sounds he heard growing up attending illegal raves as he is by DIY noise and academic electronic abstractions, Pedone is also an innovative DJ who’ve recorded mixes for Resident Advisor, FACT, Ninja Tune’s Solid Steel, Crack Magazine and The Wire.
