TEST is a Brazilian duo formed in 2010 by João Kombi (guitar and vocals) and Barata (drums), two veterans of the São Paulo music scene. Known for their intense live performances, striking collaborations with artists such as Iggor Cavalera and Deafkids, and a fearless musical approach, the band has become one of the most inventive forces in Brazilian extreme music.

TEST’s journey began on the streets: in 2011, the duo started performing outside major metal concerts using a generator and a Volkswagen van. The bold initiative caught attention—and it worked. Since then, they’ve played over a thousand shows in 28 countries, touring across North America, Europe, and Asia, along with countless gigs in every state of Brazil.

Today, TEST boasts a résumé that includes sharing the stage—officially—with genre heavyweights such as King Diamond, Napalm Death, Carcass, Cannibal Corpse, Exodus, Brujeria, Mayhem, Mortician, Full of Hell, Lightning Bolt, and The Dillinger Escape Plan. The band has earned praise from key figures in the scene: Shane Embury (Napalm Death) and brothers Max and Iggor Cavalera have publicly voiced their love for the group. Iggor even named Barata one of his top nine drummers of all time.

Moving fluidly between musical worlds, TEST has also performed alongside artists like Tom Zé, Boogarins, and Metá Metá, breaking down stylistic barriers. Their tour history includes appearances at some of the world’s premier extreme music festivals—such as Obscene Extreme (Czech Republic) and Maryland Deathfest (USA)—as well as regular performances at leading festivals and venues within Brazil’s independent scene.

With an unrelenting pace of recording and touring, TEST is celebrating 15 years on the road with a robust discography: 19 releases, including albums, EPs, and splits, created in collaboration with bands from around the globe, such as Chepang (Nepal), Cloud Rat and Ixias (USA), and Struggle Session (China).

Throughout this journey, the duo has released two feature-length films and sold over 12,000 physical records—driven by a self-sustaining ethos that continues to carve new paths in DIY management. TEST is a band like no other.
