Masayoshi Fujita is a Japanese vibraphonist, marimba player and composer. Unconstrained by traditional styles, techniques, or compositional theories, he continuously explores new possibilities for his instruments and crafts new sonic landscapes that are unmistakably his own.

After 13 years in Berlin, he relocated to a new home and studio in the rural Japanese mountain village of Kami-cho, Hyogo, following his life-long dream of creating music in nature. In the quiet embrace of the mountains, where the cloud weaves through old trees and time seems to pause, Masayoshi finds his inspiration and continues his sonic explorations into the unknown, and shares these creations with the world.

Fujita was invited to create the soundtrack for Expo 2025’s vast living nature installation from which his new album for Erased Tapes, Forest of Tranquility, grew. Like the Japanese kankyō ongaku (environmental music) pioneers Hiroshi Yoshimura, Midori Takada and Haruomi Hosono before him, Masayoshi makes gentle, mind-massaging music intended to blend harmoniously with its environment. Coursing through the leafy veins of Forest of Tranquility is the distinct feeling that you, too, might wander off into the wilderness someday and never return to the city.
