James K

A version of James K was born. Comprised of bones, reactive metals and a larynx with freckled eyes that catalyzes that mix. When she chews gum, it’s not clear which one of her personas does it. Since their first release in 2013, describing them separately is grunt work as they switch places, cosplay each other and would most likely lull you into a lonesome dream. Together, they know how to produce, sound, film and edit, performing and DJing in clubs and theaters, along composers and children alike. They star on a French TV, during commissioned exhibitions and on runways, too. They release on Incienso, AD 93, PAN, and continue to operate their label, She Rocks!, started in 2015 to release unestablished female-identifying artists. K provides shows for NTS, works with Yves Tumor, 3XL, Drew McDowall, and slayed her band SETH twice.

James K is a producer, singer, and artist, working across sound, visual art, performance, feminist theory, and writing. She is a resident on NTS radio and ISSUE Project Room (2018), she began releasing music under her moniker in 2013 and released her debut album ‘PET’ on Dial and her own She Rocks!, and, more recently, released her sophomore album with Incienso, as well as an EP on AD 93 and appearing on PAN’s Mono No Aware. She is known for her collaboration with Yves Tumor ‘Licking an Orchid’ with whom she opens and performs live for sold out shows at the likes of Webster Hall and Central Park Summer Stage. In the past year she also performed at Meakusma Festival, and Tresor 31 Festival, NY Art Book Fair, as well as support for pioneer Morton Subotnick’s final run of live shows, and shared stage with James Ferraro, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe and has most recently collaborated with UK producer Parris and Brooklyn duo LEYA, and Brooklyn producer Beta Librae, featuring in their recent albums.

James K has connected with the scene in Europe over the years, performing at Berlin Biennale, Panorama Bar (Berghain), Volksbuhne or Creamcake (3HD Festival) and soon coming back for a string of shows in Europe.

Take a sip of water before your memory error blinks. Dial to K. Listen to the disfragmented territory and the cast of it she’s making. It might not be what you will have thought tomorrow.
