freddie Murphy is a sound artist and curator based in Torino, IT.

His sonic research has shifted from cathartic performances to express the Catholic sense of guilt to an intimate investigation on feelings of loss and acceptance connected with grief.
As founding member of the Italian Occult Psychedelia’s outfit Father Murphy he released a series of concept albums and performed extensively across the world. Appearances include Venice Biennale (Italy), Dark Mofo Festival (Australia), and Le Guess Who!? Festival (The Netherlands). Movies with his original soundtrack have premiered at Locarno Film Festival (CH), Karlovy Vary (CZ) and MOMA Fortnight Festival (US).
His most recent sound installations premiered at GAM Gallery of Modern Art, Torino, (IT), NOASS Center, Riga (LV), Kentway Museum, Tunbridge Wells (UK). Together with Chiara Lee, Murphy is the present curators of the music public programme for the Museum of Asian Art (MAO), Torino and has been guest curator at Donnaregina Contemporary Art Museum – Madre Museum, Napoli and Fondazione Merz, Torino.

His latest output, “The Night shows no Dawn” is a sonic exploration into the practice of funeral laments, a formal device used in many cultures to express and contain the emotions of grief.
In his performance dedicated to a possible future extinction of the human collectivity Murphy, like a modern weeper, uses breathing patterns turned into sobbing sounds, a very personal form of lamenting to acknowledge not just the losses of the past but also the loss of a future.
