Snakes of Russia is the cinematic electronic project of Los Angeles-based producer, composer and performer Joseph Holiday. Combining hazy, dark sound design, low-end rumble and rolling downtempo death beats, Holiday creates heavy instrumental music that evokes a dystopian landscape.

His debut EP, At Home Alone With Lions, arrived in 2020, followed by remixes, film and trailer work, and sound-design projects for Ableton Live, Spitfire Audio, Netflix and The Crow Hill Company. The Alchemy EP with Robot Koch followed in 2022, alongside the Brush for Violence soundtrack in 2023.

For the first full-length album, True Surrender (Modular Field/Rough Trade, 2024), Holiday worked with producer Kurt Ballou at God City in Salem, Massachusetts, expanding the project’s sonic palette. His second album, Swallowed Whole Through the Mouth of Eternity, was released on November 21, 2025.

North American tours with Swallow the Sun and 10 Years have brought the project to new audiences. Recent work includes reworks from the latest album, remixes for HEALTH and The Black Queen, and music for the Resident Evil soundtrack.

Snakes of Russia performs both solo and with a live drummer, bringing custom instrumentation and an immersive approach to the stage.
