Les Big Byrd is a Swedish psychedelic rock band formed in Stockholm in 2011 by Joakim Åhlund and Frans Johansson. Over the years, they have developed a signature sound blending hypnotic krautrock rhythms, lush synth textures, and soaring guitar melodies. Initially a duo, the band later expanded to include keyboardist Martin “Konie” Ehrencrona and drummer Nino Keller. Ehrencrona left in the early 2020s and was replaced by Christian Olsson on keyboards from Eternal Light Brigade (2022) onward.

Their debut album, They Worshipped Cats (2014), introduced audiences to their hazy, spacey sound, while Iran Iraq Ikea(2018) leaned further into synth-heavy, melancholic krautrock. In 2022, they released Eternal Light Brigade, a critically acclaimed album that refined their blend of shimmering psychedelia and atmospheric soundscapes.

In March 2024, Les Big Byrd unveiled their fourth studio album, Diamonds, Rhinestones and Hard Rain, marking a bold step in their musical evolution. The album, featuring both Swedish and English lyrics, is an immersive journey into expansive, improvisational soundscapes. Opening with the sprawling ten-minute track “Mareld” and closing with the hypnotic twelve-minute “The Night Bus,” the record is a testament to their ability to craft mesmerizing sonic experiences. The title track, “Diamonds, Rhinestones and Hard Rain,” is a standout piece, blending glimmering melodies with haunting echoes that build into an intense, pulsating groove.

Their live performances are an extension of their studio work—hypnotic, loud, and deeply immersive. Known for their tight musicianship and ability to create a trance-like atmosphere, Les Big Byrd has performed at renowned festivals such as Reeperbahn Festival and Freak Valley Festival, as well as major venues across Europe, including Debaser Strand in Stockholm, Bla in Oslo, and Molotow in Hamburg. Their shows are characterized by pulsating rhythms, swirling visuals, and extended improvisations, making each performance a unique, transportive experience.

With Diamonds, Rhinestones and Hard Rain, Les Big Byrd continues to push the boundaries of psychedelic rock, proving themselves as one of Sweden’s most compelling and adventurous bands.
