Somewhere between Sandy Denny’s arresting clarity and Vashti Bunyan’s gentle depth sits the luminous voice of Australian folk diviner Leah Senior. While the style and instrumentation of ’70s Brit folk are touchstones on Senior’s most recent album, Pt. Roadknight, her disarming lyrics are fresh and wholehearted, wrestling with modern concerns of gentrification and isolation while finding solace in the quiet beauty of the Victorian surf coast town where she lives. Leah Senior has been a shining star of the Australian folk scene for the past decade, touring extensively and sharing international stages with the likes of Wilco, Iron & Wine, Simon Joyner and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. On Pt. Roadknight, her fifth studio album, Senior explores her introspective, nature-loving side while honing the singular baroque psych-folk that has captivated listeners around the world.
The album reached number 5 on the ARIA vinyl charts, was named Feature Album on PBS, 4ZZZ, Edge Radio and RTR, and was featured by The Australian, Aquarium Drunkard (USA), Songlines (USA) and Shindig! (UK).
Her previous album, Music That I Make, was named Album of the Week on Triple R and RTR FM, and received praise from The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Rush Magazine, NME, Shindig! (UK), New Commute (USA) and Raven Sings The Blues (USA). The album was nominated for the Australian Music Prize and Music Victoria’s Best Folk Album. In 2024, Leah and her band won Best Regional Act at the Music Victoria Awards.
In 2025, Leah collaborated with Red Room Poetry and Radio National as a poetry ambassador for Poetry Month. ABC Radio National held a lyric-writing competition, and Leah turned the winning piece into a song. She also contributed poetry, ran a lyric-writing workshop, and performed at a debate held by Red Room Poetry. She spoke about lyric writing at the Sydney Writers’ Festival in 2026.
Leah’s previous three albums, The Passing Scene, Pretty Faces and Summer’s On The Ground, were released through Flightless Records. An auspicious late-night encounter with King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard saw Leah Senior join their independent label. In 2022, Leah and her band joined King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard on a month-long tour of the USA and Canada, performing at iconic venues including Red Rocks and The Greek Theatre. Senior’s distinctive voice has featured on a number of King Gizzard records, including the apocalyptic album Murder of the Universe, as the omnipresent female narrator. In early 2020, Senior joined members of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard to rewrite the soundtrack for cult classic Suspiria and perform it live at Hamer Hall.
