KILAT are a boundary-pushing force in Australia’s black metal underground, forging a distinct identity rooted in Indonesian mysticism and raw sonic fury. Formed in 2021 in Naarm/Melbourne, the band unite vocalist Karina Utomo, guitarist Benjamin Andrews and drummer Rama Parwata.

KILAT—meaning “lightning” in Indonesian—channel the chaos and violence of nature through uncompromising blast beats, tremolo-picked aggression and hypnotic, ritualistic vocal incantations. Lyrically and visually, the band draw deeply from ancient Javanese mythology, Nusantara folklore and the esoteric traditions of the Indonesian archipelago.

Their 2022 debut EP Rantai Penjinak introduced this vision with six tracks of blistering black metal laced with ancestral resonance. Following sold-out Melbourne shows and a headline appearance at MONA FOMA, KILAT toured New Zealand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, establishing themselves as one of the region’s most vital new voices in extreme music.

Tirai Niskala, the band’s forthcoming second full-length, is set for release on October 10, 2026 through W V Sorcerer and Disdain Records. Fierce, elemental and uncompromising, KILAT are a channel of ancestral rage and sacred defiance.
